Shortcut topics

We recently added a new type of topic we call “shortcut topics.” It’s possible you might have noticed this if you typed into the search box in the upper right of the page something like “video games wii”.   If you did, the top result will take you here, where you’ll see:

Notice the “>Wii” after the topic name.  Basically the shortcut jumped you to question #2 of “Which video game should I play?” as if you had answered the first question “Wii”.  (We are thinking of providing tools to rewrite these short cut names to be a bit more natural sounding – e.g. “Which Wii game should I play?” – but for now hope the titles are clear enough.)

We are hoping this will help give provide some more structure so that people who want a “Which Wii game should I play” topic can create what they want without creating a whole new topic and in some cases redoing a lot of work that has been done before.

Note that when you contribute to a shortcut topic, you get switched back to the “real” topic, and any contributions go in that broader topic.  We are thinking about more elegant ways to handle this and welcome suggestions from our users. Here’s a forum thread if you have questions or suggestions.
