Hunch: Personalizing the Internet
We made a big change to the Hunch site today — if you are logged out of Hunch or visiting for the first time, you’ll be prompted to log in and create a taste profile for yourself. This means answering THAY – Teach Hunch About You – questions, so Hunch can learn about you and ultimately personalize the internet for you. We’ve enabled (as of a few weeks ago, but maybe you’re just noticing) Facebook and Twitter logins to make it easier as well.
Over the past year we’ve found that Hunch gives significantly better results — 20-40% better!! — to logged in users who’ve made a profile, so we’ve decided to go full bore in this direction. This will give us a short term hit in our traffic — we’ve been rolling this out gradually over the site so have already seen its effects, but over time will make Hunch a much better product.
There is also a snazzy new set of badges and data to illustrate your taste profile. These are in a very nascent form but will be growing. Up to this point we’ve been just showing general data but now you can see the data as pertains to you.
Not much will change for existing account-holding users (though there is a lot more coming soon!) Cheers! And one more interesting factoid: we make this change on Hunch’s first birthday! We launched June 15, 2009.
